Find your idea and message, then paint it. The Impressionists tried to capture fleeting moments of what they saw and felt. Learn painting skills while also painting with compassion and purpose. We will look to famous artists for inspiration and to make our paintings stronger. Elements like composition, value and color are emphasized to make your paintings successful.

Become immersed in the beauty of the great outdoors. The scene before you will reveal possibilities and inspiration. Students will be challenged to paint and capture fleeting evening light. It requires pushing yourself to paint quickly. Surprises happen when doing this. Your landscapes will come alive as we address the elements of line, shape, color, edges and texture. Your will develop and increase your skills for studio paintings. Nature is the best teacher for landscape painting! We will paint at nearby locations to be discussed at the first class.

Still life painting, whether allegorical, botanical or a depiction of everyday life, has a long history dating as far back as the ancient Egyptians. Artists from Jan van Eyck to Edouard Manet to Wayne Thiebaud have all used still life to represent their place, time and style. In this class you will learn to compose and capture still life in oil and acrylic. We will focus on light, shape, value and color. Bring in some of your favorite objects to create an expression of your life at this time and in this place. Enrollment limited to 18; ages 16 and up

Through landscapes and still life art, learn to create a composition, apply paint and increase your understanding of color theory. Demonstrations and presentations will be made in the initial sessions. Enjoy a relaxing environment which sets the stage for self discovery through experimentation. Develop a personal vision and strategy to create your own masterpiece. This class will help you learn the basics or allow you to enhance your skills as an artist. Our instructor, Michele Combs, will help each person on an individual basis. Michele trained at the Minnesota River School of Fine Arts and has studied with artists throughout the country.
